Privacy Policy
Last updated: 13 August 2026
Closeli connects families with vetted college-student companions who spend time with elderly people in Bengaluru. That means we handle information about someone you love. This policy explains, in plain language, what we collect, why, who can see it, and what you can make us do about it.
For the purposes of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023, Closeli (sole proprietorship, pre-incorporation) of Bengaluru, Karnataka, India is the Data Fiduciary and you are the Data Principal.
What we collect
- Account information: name, email address, phone number, and address.
- Elder profile: age, interests, daily routine, languages, mobility, dietary needs, important dates, and any health notes you choose to share. Health information is sensitive: you decide how much to give us, and the companion sees only what helps them care well.
- Companion profile: college ID, government ID, police verification documents, references, and bank details for payouts. Identity documents are held in a private store readable only by an administrator, never by families or other companions.
- Session data: check-in and check-out times, photos taken during visits, mood ratings, and the companion's written notes.
- Payment information: handled entirely by Razorpay or Stripe. Card numbers never reach our servers and we cannot see them.
- Usage and device data: pages visited, actions taken, and device type, but only if you allow analytics on the cookie banner.
Session photos, specifically
Photographs taken during a visit are stored in a private location and served only through short-lived links generated for one signed-in viewer at a time. The only people who can open them are the companion who took them, the family that books that elder's visits, the elder themselves, and an administrator. They are not on the public internet and cannot be reached by guessing a URL.
How we use it
- To match elders with the right companion, by language, area, and interests.
- To generate the weekly summary your family reads.
- To process subscription payments and companion payouts.
- To send visit notifications (check-in, check-out, reminders).
- To verify a companion's identity and record before any visit happens.
- To keep the service secure and to fix crashes.
We do not use your data to train machine-learning models, and we do not profile you for advertising.
Who we share it with
Only the processors below, each for the single purpose listed. Some are outside India; where that is so, the transfer is made under the terms of that provider's data processing agreement.

What companions and families can see
- A matched companion: sees the elder's first name, area, interests, routine, and any care notes you shared. They see the full address once a visit is confirmed. They never see payment details.
- A family: sees their matched companion's photo, college, languages, interests, and verification status, and every note and photo from their own elder's visits only.
- Nobody else: companions cannot see other companions' applications, other families, or other elders. We test this, not just assert it.
How long we keep it
- Active accounts: kept while your account is open.
- After you ask us to delete: personal data erased within 30 days of the request.
- Session photos: kept for 1 year from the visit, then deleted.
- Payment records: kept for 7 years. Indian tax law requires this and we cannot waive it, even at your request.
- Consent records: kept as long as your account exists, so we can show what you agreed to and when.

- Correct: fix anything inaccurate or incomplete.
